P2P Naples & Pompeii, Italy: Day 7

Our ferry boat was delayed about 2 hours, so we arrived a few hours behind schedule in Italy.  Our boat ride went well, and we were all rocked to sleep like babies by the waves of the sea.  Upon arrival in Italy, we met our coach driver Aldo who would be driving us throughout the country for the next 10 days.  We made our way to the city of Pompeii where we had our first Italian lunch of gnocchi.

After lunch we made our way to see the ruins of Pompeii.  While we were waiting in line it started to thunderstorm, but that didn't stop us from enjoying our time.

The city of Pompeii was preserved under volcanic ash of Mt. Vesuvius from the eruption of 79 AD.  It was amazing to see how the city still has paved roads and buildings standing after thousands of years.

After our wet visit to Pompeii, we had a bit of free time to do some shopping and exploring before heading to our hotel in Naples for the evening.

During our free time I stopped for the famous Italian dessert- a canoli.

Italy is also famous for it's lemon juice and products using lemons.  Check out how big some of the lemons at this stand were!

Today was another awesome day on our adventure in Europe!  Tomorrow we are headed to Roma!
