After our briefing, we broke up into three groups for the day. Each group would rotate through all activities, and then we would come back together as one group to debrief. My group leader was Sierha from New Zealand, and she was awesome! Here are some pictures of the leadership and get to know you activities we did throughout the day. The pics below are of a game called "Birdie on a Perch."
We also did a secret maze game where all students had to figure out the maze as a team and get through it in a specific time.
The BIG event of the day was abseiling down the castle wall. This was scary! Even though I have done this many times before, there is nothing like taking that first step off the edge of the castle. When my guide told me to lean back over the edge....I really had to convince myself that it would be ok!!! I was so proud of our group- everyone did it! Here are some preliminary pictures before we went to the top. Everyone had to pass safety checks and be strapped into their harness correctly.
Everyone had to climb several flights of stairs inside the castle to get to the top. Once at the top, we were harnessed in and then at our own pace we abseiled down the wall. What an amazing experience! Everyone stepped outside of their comfort zone!!
The picture below shows the hardest part- leaning back and taking that first step off of the edge!
After scaling the castle wall, we stopped for lunch and gelato. On the way, I ran into a friend! What a small world! We saw Deb Roberts, who I traveled with 9 years ago on People to People.
Our guide even taught us how to order gelato in Italian!
Assisi is a gorgeous city! Here are some of the views we saw throughout the day.
